One of the most popular man-made materials on the globe is concrete. According to certain calculations, we have produced enough concrete to apply a thin layer of cement across the whole surface of the planet. Although concrete is a strong and long-lasting building material, it has a substantial carbon impact. According to the Royal Society of Chemistry, the production of concrete is responsible for 5 to 7 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, whatever we can do to lessen the strain that concrete places on the world is an important step in the right direction. What is Aircrete?
Simply put, aircrete is concrete with bubbles. Portland cement is often used to make the regular concrete that we use for our roadways, basements, and foundations. This mixture hardens into a very solid substance with exceptional compressive strength. Additional structural stability is added by the insertion of iron rebar.
In contrast to conventional concrete, aircrete uses less or no aggregate. Aircrete focuses on adding prefabricated foam bits that effectively create bubbles of airspace inside the concrete mix rather than gravel or other coarse material types. An alternative to foam is to add specific types of reactive materials to the wet cement mixture. The cement and water slurry hardens with empty voids as a result of the chemical reaction, which also produces gas bubbles.
